Happy Holidays!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! If you're thinking about getting festive, try one of these excellent holiday movies.

Favorite Holiday Films

1. It's a Wonderful Life
You can't beat this classic film about the importance and beauty of life itself. This film creates an unforgettable world and characters and is one of the few films that feels fresh every time you see it. Jimmy Stewart gives one of his most memorable performances and Frank Capra's direction is superb. 5/5

2. Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
The original version of this Santa Clause story is a sentimental classic that is so much fun that you'll forget how cheesy the plot is. This is my favorite screen incarnation of Santa Clause and Natalie Wood gives a career-defining performance. This is another classic that has stood the test of time. 5/5

3. A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim version)
This is the best screen rendition of the Dickens' classic not just because of the performance of sim but because of the whole cast and the beautiful direction. There have been so many versions of its tale that it is remarkable that one is head and shoulders above the rest but this one truly is! 5/5

4. Christmas Vacation
This Christmas comedy is probably the best of its kind. Chevy Chase does well as the lead and the jokes keep flying. this film will provide some great laughs as well as holiday charm. Look out for a young Julia Louis-Dreyfus. 5/5

5. Holiday Inn
My favorite holiday-themed musical (sorry White Christmas) this film has Bing Crosby AND Fred Astaire with songs by Irving Berlin, what's not to love about that? This is also the premier of the song White Christmas but there is so much more to marvel at. With two of the greatest musical talents on screen together the film has a sense of fun other movies of this type just don't. but be warned there is a very racist musical number corresponding to Lincoln's birthday which is certainly offensive so this must be viewed as a period piece.  5/5
